Illustration – Danny
Here is an illustration of my friend Danny. I created using a reference at first and began making each part and placing it in its own layer. I used mainly the Pathfinder tool to divide objects up and Alignment tool to equal the spacings of the background stripes.

Illustration – Stare at Apples in Pairs
This is a vector image of a pair of apples. The techniques used in this piece was a tool called Gradient Mesh, which is creating a structured mesh that resemble 3D depth around a 2D object and then applying individual gradient at each vector point. This was the first time I’ve used Gradient Mesh and I think it produces a nice result. It allows multiple gradients to be blended in from all directions and creates a realistic image.
There are quite a few tutorials on Gradient Mesh available online if you google search. The best method of creating Mesh is starting from a box and then adding mesh lines inside and adjusting the vector handles as you go along to make the curves.

Illustration – 1986
Here is a vector image of myself when I young. This was created on Illustrator with the aid of an old photo as a reference. I tried to use simple neutral colours and light tones to show youth and innocence. I’ve reduced the Opacity on the skin area down for a more natural blend and the effect used on the hair was Filter > Roughen. I like this piece of work in particular as it reminds me of a much simpler time.
